Quick review for a quick read. This was a book I picked up on a random afternoon looking through Kindle Unlimited and it's about the life and career of José "Pepe" González, known for a range of comic interpretations such as his work on Vampirella and well as a range of popular culture artwork across multiple dimensions and cultures. For example, I was not aware before reading this that he did several Barbie advertisements and illustrated several romance covers - some of which I've read - around the time I was growing up. It's surreal to see this compilation of his very distinct style through different mediums. The more I read into it, the more I realized I was more familiar with his work than I had picked up on initially.

Part art book and part biography, it showcases different features and a chronological timeline of his career. I did appreciate the fact that they showcased a wide range of the pieces he completed, but I did feel like it would have been better if they put contextual captions providing more of a deep dive into some of the pieces selected and how they were created. I also felt like this was rather a short read for someone who had such a long career. Still, the amount of work showcased within and learning about his life in this context was worth the perusal. It's definitely worth checking out if you're looking for resources, even a starter foothold to learning more about his life.

Overall score: 3.5/5 stars.
