Love a good curse. Mostly read this looking for story ideas. I know photographs are expensive and difficult to source, and are less ~aesthetic~ than illustrations, but I really wish there had been photos in this -- I wanted to see the objects! The writing was bouncy to fine, though this also really needed a more careful copy edit. This book would itself probably be more satisfying as a physical object than as an ebook, which is unfortunately how I read it.

This book is what it states! Pretty straightforward and informative. If this kind of information is something you already love and know about? You may not hear anything new, unfortunately. Most of the information I knew more about in detail due to podcasts. I wish there had been more deep diving or more personal takes instead of straight research that other sources have.

A fun read!
Although I admit I don't remember most of them, because there are so many. The ones I've heard of before of course stuck the most with me - tbh, to hell with dolls of ANY kind, I can't stand the things. Much less the ones that are probably bad luck/cursed etc. The funniest and the maybe the most puzzling thing was learning how many of them are publicly displayed in museums and various other public places because just... No.

The book is well researched and each item is explained with a bit of humor. The narration is excellent.
