I enjoyed this book so much. The first part of the book is a a memoir of growing up in 1980s/80s New York City, and having grown up there just a couple years behind them, it hit me in all the right places. I was more of a Deadhead back then so my life only slightly overlapped with their hardcore and hip hop scene, but there was still so much familiarity. I enjoyed how the book was like a collection of essays, creatively brought together in a way that mirrored their lifelong musical creativity. Adam H. And Mike kept the book fresh and fun even while Adam Yauch’s voice was palpably missing. I shed more than a few tears for the loss of his life while reading. I found a Spotify playlist someone else had put together that had not only their music but many of their inspirations, chronologically, and it was an excellent pairing with the book.

Fantastic meta-history of the band that tries to capture it from so many angles (Playlists of the area, tributes by other writers/celebs, very specific stories and so many great photos). This feels so in line with the band and appreciate the level of creativity put into this.

Utterly marvellous and an absolute joy. Adam Horovitz is particularly funny. This book, just like their music, is put together with a pot pourri of ideas to keep the reader hugely entertained. Be prepared to multitask and perform lots of referential Spotify or YouTube look ups however!

This is the gold standard for audiobooks, but it's even better when I read along with the physical book. Truly an experience.

I feel like if I was a more hard-core fan or had grown up with this music it would’ve been more interesting, but it was still very fun. You can tell they love music a ton and at times the references became impossible for me to follow, but that was fine lol

I do feel like this book is probably better enjoyed visually. They had some really fun different voice actors which helped keep it engaging for me, but I definitely feel like there was a lot of visual content in the book which would’ve enriched the experience.

Insightful view into the Beastie Boys. It's a series of essays written by Ad-Rockland Mike D (written after the death of Yauch, the 3rd member of the Beastie Boys). An amazing set of celebrity narrators.
