In A Dash of Trouble, Leo learned that her family is full of brujas and that their bakery is more magical than she originally thought. Now, in A Sprinkle of Spirits, Leo is learning how to be a bruja while working at Amor y Azucar with her mother, aunt and sisters. But everything is not as perfect as Leo had hoped: her sisters are still bossy, and, worse, they are being rude to Leo's best friend, Caroline. When Leo's dead Abuela appears in her bedroom--and not as a ghost--Leo is at first hopeful that she has discovered the secret to her mysterious her birth-order power. But when more spirits start showing up around Rose Hill, Leo's ability in magic--and her faith in her friends--will be tested.

I love Leo, and how she continues to grow as a person, always eager to learn and grow. As the youngest of five, she's told to do a lot of things and has to discern between good advice and bad advice in order to be a good bruja and a good friend. Leo learns a lot about herself in this installment, and is starting to figure out who she wants to be in the long run and where her strengths lie. And what a cliffhanger to be left on! I can't wait for the next installment and return to Rose Hill, Texas, to see what magic Leo will learn.

This is one of the few series that I've been interested in since before it even came out.  So when I saw the third of this, I knew I had to snag it!  Leo has grown so much since book #1--she's getting a hang of her magic, and is learning in a more formal setting.  She's truly understanding the history of her family and how magic has been entertwined in everything that they do.  But after her last mishap--one that led to the cops being called and her shrinking a classmate--her family blames her when a group of spirits are unleashed into their small town.  But she didn't do anything!  Right?  Or is this her birth power, finally showing itself?  Who's to say!

Meriano did and still does a great job at tackling the struggles of friendship, death, and understanding all into one.  As Leo finally meets her abuela properly this time, she can't help but wonder if her best friend, Caroline, is feeling a little hurt and left out.  Her mother died the previous year, so why is it that Leo gets to see someone she barely remembers?  Yet, with anything involving magic, there's more than meets the eye...

As always, there's a recipe in the back for one of the magical pastries Leo and her family makes, and there's just so much information pertaining to witchery and brujas.  Think herbs, candles, intention, altars, totems...there's so much to be learned, unraveled, and taught.

This was a fantastic continuation to an already fantastic story, and I just can't wait to read the third in this series.  Has there ever been a series recently that I've been this excited about?  I'm not entirely sure--so be convinced that this series is one worth reading!

This book was so much better than the first. The character development and pacing were much improved and the plot was way more interesting. I continue to love the way Mariano intermingles English and Spanish throughout the book in such a natural way. I think Leo still reads a little on the younger side but this book deals with much heavier topics than the first like grief. I will definitely continue on with the series.

I loved this book! Not only cute and easy to read, but it resonated something fierce in me. It will make you smile, laugh, and maybe cry-- especially if you have a Hispanic family of your own, like I do. Do your abuela proud and read this book!

I am finding that I really love this series and how Leo's magical shenanigans are equal parts funny and deeply connected to finding who she is, her connection with her family and to life and death. I definitely laughed and cried and look forward to the next one.

This one has less baking and more spirits, which isn't exactly my cup of tea, but it fulfilled the cute and cosy nonetheless.

This was so cute! I was a little nervous of where the story was going to go when it started, but I enjoyed it and love the idea of baking magic. I can't wait to finish out the series!
