At the end of this book I made a loud enough exclamation that my husband, playing Rainbow Six: Siege with headphones on in the other room asked if I was OK.

No, sir. No I am not.

That. Ending.

Unfortunately I do think The Silvered Serpents suffered from second book syndrome...it definitely felt like a middle book, and despite the stakes being ostensibly high for the characters, they didn't feel high in a gripping, page-turning way. However, the ending was certainly a cliffhanger, and sets up the next book to be (if it's possible) even angstier.

I definitely plan to continue the series, but unfortunately I didn't love The Silvered Serpents as much as I enjoyed The Gilded Wolves.

I'm *barely* giving this 4 stars. There are a lot of issues with the storytelling and actual writing, in my opinion. However the story is still very fascinating and I'm very interested in seeing what happens next, so I find it's not *too* hard to power through. Readers who can't stand flowery language, though, I recommend you stay away.

i have no words... it was going pretty well until 2 deaths were faked using strawberry jam… and the characters fell for it…….. how is it even physiologically possible to be that dumb and inobservant …. like seriously Strawberry Jam…… has the author ever even encountered strawberry jam before because it truly does not have the texture or color of blood in any shape or form… i seriously cannot get over this i’m astounded to say the least

I'm usually let down by sequels/second books in trilogies so I didn't expect this book to wow me like it did.

Zofia continues to be my favourite. The way that she and Enrique's friendship evolved throughout the book was utterly heartwarming, as well as the way that she entirely devotes herself to fighting for Laila as soon as finds out about her secret, I could've cried at the ferocity with which she found for a cure/fix to Laila's situation.

I was a bit give or take about Severin in the first book but it was so interesting to read his devolution (or evolution, depending on how you view it) throughout the book until the end where his thought processes and desire culminate in one of the most shocking moves I could've envisioned.

And OMG, that ending? I didn't wait long before I started the final book. Roshani Chokshi has a way of pulling you into a world that it feels impossible to leave.

In this sequel to The Gilded Wolves, the once close-knit team of Séverin, Laila, Zofia, and Enrique has drifted apart in the wake of Tristan's death at the hands of the Fallen House. Haunted by the loss, Séverin becomes obsessed with locating an artifact he believes could turn him into a god. He convinces the crew to help him with this one last mission, which leads them into the heart of Siberia.

The Silvered Serpents is a bit darker than the first book, given that the relationships between the crew members have deteriorated due the tragedy at the end of The Gilded Wolves. However, it's still an exciting page-turner full of magic and mythology, with some great character development. Another cliffhanger ending will leave readers wanting more!
