I am declaring Inside read - even though I haven't been able to get past the first 50 pages. Not sure why, but I've started reading it twice now with the same result. Just not the right book for me right now - too bad, since I've been working my way through all of last year's award nominees (Giller, Writers Trust and GG) and have enjoyed most of them.

While I didn't find this story the easiest to follow, due to the lack of paper book to refer back to, I did really enjoy the intertwining stories of these characters.

I wanted to like this book. I picked it up because I had read an excerpt from the first chapter and it was intriguing. I tried to ignore the signs--the signs that the writing was just not all that good, and the characters were not satisfying, and the interwoven stories structure was not going well. But by the third or fourth chapter, I couldn't deny my misgivings any more. I think it was the line, "With her thick-framed glasses and disapproving look, she resembled a librarian more than the lawyer she was." UGH. How stereotypical can you be? Come on.

I decided life is too short, and moved on.

I'm still not sure whether the different stories formed a convincing whole. Grace, her patient Annie, her ex husband Mitch cycle through the book, taking turns as central character. Annie's story is almost completely separate, and her character is pretty unfeeling and damaged.
