It's a little hard to forget that it's a translation since the story relies heavyly on language, but the world Tawada writes is so original and fascinating that I got over it. A lot of strong images and weird concepts, an entirely novel post apocalyptic world. I especially loved the Mumei point of views towards the end.

This book felt surprisingly long for such a short book

Love the concept and everything it challenged me to think about, but I struggled reading the end. I am still so unsure what even happened which has left me a little unsatisfied.

Fun thoughts I had reading about this dystopian world:
-cab we reverse globalisation?
-what would my great grandma tell me about the world?
-if I could make up a national holiday, what would it be for?
