This book is about a police detective named Maggie who grew up in a small town. When Maggie was a teenager, she found her best friend Eve brutally murdered. The case remained cold and unsolved for many years. Now, we’ve caught up with Maggie years later. She’s happily married, successful and about to go on maternity leave with her unborn child. Until one day, a new piece of evidence in Eve’s murder resurfaces, and its up to Maggie to investigate. Old secrets come to light, and the reader is left wondering who killed Eve? Does her weird and crazy sister Nola have something to do with it? Does her abusive high school boyfriend? Maggie is on the case, although, she has many secrets of her own.

I genuinely liked this book. I am a big fan of the author and this book did not disappoint. I was hooked early on. I love the writing, the interconnected details that come together and the well-developed characters. I read it quite quickly because I was eager to find out what happened. Some notes, I did not love how some aspects of the past were revealed fairly early on. However, there were still twists and turns, I was left surprised at the end. I liked how the reader was able to read from different perspectives, especially that of Eve. Great read!

Page turner, but I should stay away from thrillers I've come to realize they're really not my thing. If you like psychological thrillers with warped characters you'll like this one.

I'm sorry but this was ridiculous. The cop was a moron. Nothing makes sense. 'Oh, this is my hometown and I need help and the only people I can call are people I knew 25 years ago and have a strained relationship with. It's not like if I've lived here for 40 years and might have friends'. 'Hmm, the pedo who groomed and raped me is creeping and feeling other girls, but I'm just gonna walk away like there is nothing I, a cop, can do'. And the sister was ridiculous. The abusive boyfriend thing was ridiculous. The whole thing I hated.

Ugh, this was alright but I just didn't vibe with it. Like the concept and everything was great and all but the execution was just a miss. I didn't really connect with any of the characters and wasn't a fan of the reveal.

This book was written in my favorite style, where the author toggles between POVs & timelines until the stories converge & the reader can finally see the full picture of what happened. There are a few possible suspects and any of them could realistically have been the killer.

Major hint was dropped within the first 50 pages and after feeling like I couldn’t get into this book, I skimmed to the end and saw that yes, that hint literally gave it all away. I’m glad I didn’t waste anymore time reading this. I felt bored and didn’t like the author’s writing style. I was giving her a second chance after The Overnight Guest and I don’t think I’ll try her again, to be honest.
