The Back Story (which is kind of a review): It was January 2009, I'd lost my lucrative magazine job in the not-so-great recession and was blue, to put it mildly. But to be honest, I also was kind of done being managing editor of a spiritual magazine, and although I missed the money, I was hungry to get back to fiction—reading and writing it—which is where my heart is. So I holed up in my New York City apartment and started having fun.

Jump Cut to Alaska: Dawn Baumann Brunke, who edited a spiritual magazine, got a forwarded email from one of the many people I'd sent my resume to. Dawn felt a connection to me, read my novel Plan Z by Leslie Kove, and emailed me.

Long Story Short: We became email and then Facebook friends, decided to write a funny book using our similar backgrounds with a lot of spiritual teacher nonsense, and after working daily for about a year, Dawn invited me to visit. So I zipped over and up to Wasilla (no, she can't see Sarah Palin's house from there) and we had a blast—laughing and making videos where we each played the character we had written. (The book is such a complete collaboration that neither of us remembers who wrote what, but we each did have a character.) Here's the first video we made: The Launch.

We were ready to launch a year ago, but suddenly the USA exploded and not even we were in the mood to deal with a funny romp, sans politics, about finding enlightenment. However, now, like a lot of people, we need an escape after a year of insanity, so . . .

Conclusion: This is our little illustrated e-book. It will probably appeal to people who have an interest in food and self-awareness—a huge demographic, no doubt (heavy sarcasm). Anyway, we had a blast, cheered each other up, and we hope it will entertain others as much as it did us.
