It started off a bit slow for me and the two characters living in two different times made for an interesting and complex concept. I'm not typically into the time travel but this magical realism wasn't over the top. Ashley Poston does a really good job writing about grief in a beautiful way, not being overdramatic and making you feel with the character(s). It was an enjoyable read with a sweet happily ever after. I also love Ashley Poston's author note at the end; making the whole book's theme come full circle.

This was a cute idea but not well executed. The characters were so cliched to the point it was maddening. They felt like they were from a bad, early 2000’s romcom or Hallmark movie (without the nostalgia) where the protagonist was supposed to be “relatable” and “quirky” because she was a workaholic who can’t cook? A woman who grew up on Long Island, lives in Manhattan, and is supposedly well-traveled and well-read but doesn’t know what pomme frites are? Gimme a break.

There were small moments where I was had a glimmer of hope that the book would be decent and make me understand why others had hyped it up. I appreciated the portrayal of grief and the gut punches from the most transom memories of your lost loved one. But overall, I was so frustrated by the bland characters that I could not go on.

It was a quick read that felt pretty predictable. It did make me think about my life and how different of a person I am than I was seven years ago.
