I really appreciated this collection of poems which centre around Northern working-class experiences, especially with intersections of childhood, family and nature. Some of my favourite poems were Scouse Nan, I am Home, My British Blended family, the Tea Charter, Poem, and others.
Overall, this is a really cohesive poetry collection and despite not growing up Northern, I definitely related to the working-class experiences of these poems. I thought as a collection, and on an individual level, the poetry really showcases a multitude of feelings, emotions and identities of Northern people. The poems are full of character and attitude and exude confidence, defiance and pride in Northern identity. There were a lot of references to grandparents, especially grandmothers, which certainly made me reminiscent of my own childhood and of my time with my Nanna and my Mamma.
I am really excited to read 'Ey Up Again', the second poetry collection and it has definitely started off well.
