January was the month that I had slated to finally learn how to use Scrivener properly. I began by reading the manual (which could use some editing!) and was left more confused than enlightened. Luckily, one day I opened my email and found an offer for a free pre-launch copy of Scrivener Superpowers in return for my honest review. So here it is:

Pros:
Scrivener Superpowers is an easy read.

At first I questioned the section where several authors spoke of how they used Scrivener for their writing projects, but it did end up clarifying the idea that the program can be used to facilitate each writer's individual preferences and style.

Unlike the training manual, I actually understood what M.G. Herron was explaining. I kept Scrivener open, and referred back and forth between the book and my writing project, and had several "aha!" moments.

While the book does not cover all the possibilities that Scrivener provides(hey, I read the manual!), it does go through a lot and gives one what to work with.

In addition to showing how Scrivener works, Herron also provides suggestions how to go from outlining, to writing to editing using Scrivener and how to customize Scrivener to one's own needs.

Cons:
Although the book does mention Scrivener for Word, it seems to focus more on Mac.(NOT a con if you work with a Mac...)

I was unable to access the many links in the book, maybe because I was reading it on my computer as a PDF file.

However, all in all, if you're interested in getting the most out of Scrivener and learning how to use it to make your writing more efficient, I would recommend this book.
