Danica McKellar does it again with another wonderful math book! The Times Machine explores multiplication and division, starting with simple facts and working up through multi-digit multiplication and long division. The reader joins Mr. Mouse and Ms. Squirrel on a “Times Machine” adventure to learn about the history and magic of multiplication and division.

As a middle school math teacher, I think this book is an incredible guide for 3rd-4th grade students to master the foundations of multiplication and division prior to the higher level math they will begin to learn in middle school. I appreciated the abundance of mathematical vocabulary and terminology used to teach these concepts. The format of the book is wonderful, with the adorable cartoons, the many examples, tips, tricks, and the “Game Time” practice problems. The chapters are well organized, and make the book easy to utilize. While I currently teach at the middle school level, I think this book could still be a helpful optional resource for a struggling student or as review, especially at the 6th grade level. I like how the book presented multiple strategies and tricks, since it is so important for students to develop problem solving skills by learning to explore different methods for solving. The Times Machine takes the reader on a colorful adventure full of learning, and makes math fun!
