This was just what I was in the mood for, and it did not disappoint. Not only did I put this on my favorites shelf, I'm considering looking for it to buy the next time I'm in a used bookstore. The art and the stories are that worth it.

If it was possible, I would give this collection 4.5 stars. Unfortunately, it was solidly 5 stars for me until the last story, which I just felt lacked the atmosphere and tight storyline of the other excellent short stories in this collection. The middle 4 stories are so incredibly atmospheric and bleak, I had to shut the book and step away to let them sink in. Daphne du Maurier has certainly now earned her place as my favorite author.
