This is an interesting mix of short stories all different with a sense of dread.
There is clear links to other authors that have been pulled from throughout and each story apart from the final one i enjoyed as despite what was happening or how silly some of the stories seemed there was always an ominous sense of something sad, scary or wrong that entices you. In fact the only story that did not give me that feeling was the superhero one ag the end.

This collection has also made me interested in learning more about Katherine Mansfield.

Mansfield with Monsters takes short stories from one of New Zealand’s leading literary ladies and recasts them as horror stories featuring sea monsters, werewolves, zombies, giant insects, vampires and more. The concept worked better than I’d feared and I enjoyed comparing these stories to the originals. This was my choice for the ‘horror book by an indie press’ prompt.

I've read some, but not much, Mansfield. (Little enough that I fear I will get thoroughly confused by reading more. WHERE ARE ALL THE MONSTERS????) In any case, the original stories by and large lack the strong plots that are the basis for other works in this mash-up genre, and they rely more on the style and tone. That's no bad thing - the already dark undertones of many of Mansfield's stories merge seamlessly with vampires, giant insects and more. Heaps of fun, and well worth reading.
