This is definitely one of those books where I felt sad when it was over. Erik Larson has a talent for making history read like a novel, and I was completely drawn in. I didn't think I would like this as much as his Devil in the White City, but I was wrong! I will be reading more of his works in the future.

I didn't love this as much as "Devil in the White City," but it could have been the topic. The writing was well-done, but it seemed like I was contanstly trying to figure out how the various storylines were going to come together. It was really cool to see how the various inventors and personalities fought over the technologies they worked on.

I usually enjoy Larson’s pacing, but the first half of this book is quite a drag. With that being said, the second half excels and delivers what one would expect from a thrilling Larson novel.

I struggled to get into this book at the beginning, (I had just finished reading Devil In The White City, which immediately sucked me in), but I can't not finish a book once I start it. Fortunately for my murder mystery-loving self, by the time I got to part 3, I was fully engrossed and had a hard time putting the book down.

This ended up being a really fascinating blended story of a marital scandal in England and the invention and impact of wireless communication.  The first 10%ish was unbelievably dull, but I’m glad I pushed through because it got really exciting and interesting as it went on.  I did not do any research on the outcome of either story so it was fun to learn!  Also it had to have been insane to live in a time when wireless communication was being invented — we take it for granted now but the trial and error required to invent it was intense.

Two engaging stories, seemingly disconnected from each other yet expertly combined. Well worth the listen, and nicely narrated.

I read it in the hospital while I was in labor with #4. Not as good as "The Devil in the White City".
