Arranged chronologically and spanning from 1910 to 1926 (with poems from prior to this in an appendix), this collection captures the bulk of Smith's material from the time period when poetry was his primary artistic focus, and this captures his best and most impactful poetry in general. Discovering the poetry of Clark Ashton Smith (CAS) has been one of the great literary adventures of my lifetime, and this first volume in a series of three is an essential resource for that adventure.

In addition to the contents of CAS' first several published collections of poetry, this book also contains many unpublished poems, including a number of works originally written in French, as well as many pages worth of juvenilia. Not all of it is equally brilliant, but because CAS was such a talented writer, he's one of the few poets whose complete works I find worth the time and effort to absorb and reflect upon.
