Sweet and sad and the message comes through,
albeit weakly, for a bitter sweet end. Now I'm worried about the boring lives of my inanimate objects and plants and whether they need to try new things or not. I had to move my wooden turtle down a shelf just to be safe.

A carpe diem tale of a stuffed bear that loves to frolic outside the parameters of homely confines and a potted fern that refuses to budge.

It’s a new home for a new couple how appear to be hoping to add to it. That does not seem to happen, but the bear and fern maintain residency in the nursery, just the same. All the while, the bear enjoys the outside nights. Rain, snow, all. The fern continues its refusal to budge. They grow older, dustier, and when the coupe moves away, they are left behind.

When a clean up man packs up the leftovers, the bear is stuffed in a box. The fern is left to wither. But the bear, scruffy in age, returns to find that the fern has realized its own loss. I won’t betray the ending, but will extoll on the beauty of Mary Manning’s illustrations, capturing the emotion with brightness and darkness. A beautiful read, as much for the young as the old. Enjoy.
