Couldn't sleep last night and ended up finishing this. It was alright. I'm tired of the incredibly mundane descriptions of Sookie's life. Harris has an interesting story to tell, but she continually dilutes it with things like "I had to turn on Sam's overhead light from time to time to read my directions." WELL OK YOU WERE DRIVING AT NIGHT WHICH YOU ALREADY TOLD US. Ugh. And the constant judgment of Jane Bodehouse in this one really bothered me. That along with a few other things (Sookie's first brunch, for instance, and the description of her general diet throughout the day, and the fact that Sookie was being ridiculous with Eric- ugh) just kept me from being able to fully engage. Sookie started off as a smart, somewhat powerful, straightforward, brave woman and she's been very reduced in a lot of ways. It's a good thing these books are wrapping up, as it's clear Harris has lost interest in them or something. These last two just aren't anywhere near as solid as the first bunch.

I feel like the last few books had sort of lost their way a little - there was a lot of minor drama that was ironed out, continual drama that was never solved and a lot of loose ends left dangling that might have gotten looked at in the future... But this one was absolutely perfect.
The murder mystery, the absolute shocker of a twist regarding the Fae and (finally!) Sookie's use of the Cluviel Dor... I enjoyed every second of reading this book and even though I feel like there will be a few bad consequences from certain actions, I actually cannot wait to read about them and find out exactly how Sookie's little story is going to end.

I know...12 books in this series! It's ridiculous, but I can't stop reading them!

I am soooooo disappointed with this book. I love this series and it just seems like the author just doesn't care anymore, and that makes the disappointment even greater. The plot was thin and filled in with descriptive, mundane daily tasks. Sigh.

You can tell that Harris is wrapping up the series as the book nears the end, but still remains much better than the previous, Dead Reckoning.
