What a sweet little book. I hadn’t known about this little gem, but I highly recommend it. As a writer, I can relate. :)

What a refreshing break from these trying political times. A sweet little bat who likes to wake up during the day (gasp!) trying to find his way in the world by writing poetry about his fellow critters - owls, chipmunks and magpies included!
Heart-warming with a hint of melancholy set against the back-drop of the changing of the seasons and finding your place in the world.
Animal lovers, this book will find its way into your heart.

awh, this is lovely. It's easy to identify with the little fledgling poet looking for his audience, with his feeling of isolation (self imposed). It's super sweet that even the critters that he dismisses as being not his audience are well meaning; the bats interrupt but then notice they've interrupted and ask him to finish it, the mockingbird provides a thoughtful critique of style, the cardinal is interested.
The illustrations, of course, are perfect.
