Charles Perrault's version of Little Red Riding Hood is officially my least favorite. It basically punishes Little Red Riding Hood (and as an allegory all women) for the wolf attacking her and eating her and her grandmother. She is a victim, only that and nothing more. Furthermore, according to Perrault, she is a silly girl who should have known better because you have to be suspicious of all men and on your guard. And if a girl is not suspicious and is assaulted, it is her fault. I promise this is not me reading into the tale. Perrault spells it on pretty clearly by having his tale end with a moral lesson for young ladies, as if having Little Red Riding Hood murdered by the wolf is not enough. Not recommended!

This is the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood, the version where the grandmother does not get eaten. This version is set apart by two main factors. First it is on the Kindle. As a family we are moving away from paper books, and it is nice to get some good classic children's books. The second is the design of the story. The pictures are bright graphics, which kept the attention of my children. As well the formatting of the text was not awkward, a problem with several other Kindle children's books we have read. The writing is good, but not brilliant. There could be a few more pages added to the conclusion. Her father just happening to be close by when she screamed is too easy, and not how I remembered the story. Overall this book was a great find.
