I lovedddd this. 620-623 were perfect but I had some issues with 624.

After reading the first issue last year I finally go round to reading this trade which features #620-24 of Captain America (2004-2011). If I've said it once, I've said is 100 times, I love Bucky Barnes. I'd say I love him 3000 (Simultaneous wink and cry face), so this was a must read for me. I'm not typically interested in Golden Age/ Silver Age stuff, which meant that this was a great little wrap up of the sort of things that were going on in that era. We get to see Bucky as the sidekick, with a slightly different origin to the MCU Bucky. We get to cover a lot of territory in just a few issues, which works great as a recap, or if you just want to know a bit more about that character from his perspective. I should have some sort of review coming to you at some point!

Started off quite slow but after a while it managed to get a bit grittier. There are huge bits of storyline that it washes over. I expect that these might be covered in other books.

Starts off stronger than it ends up. Strong art style and interesting origin story for Bucky but the second half drops on the characterization and makes a too-quick transition to his career as the Winter Soldier. Also found the aging confusing and the storytelling uneven in that last issue, which sort of ruined it for me.

It was very good. I enjoyed the story. I love Bucky and I have since seeing the winter soldier movie. It was nice reading about the traditional Bucky story line where he was a side kick. He reminds me of robin, albeit a darker one, who is my favorite hero.

With the upcoming movie spiking my interest in Bucky Barnes, this was an awesome introduction to him. It also gave me a bit more respect for Cap (he is slowly warming up to me, especially thanks to the movies).

This condenses Bucky's life story, giving you the basic jist, even giving a quick summary on how he became The Winter Solider. Obviously, it's summarizing another story arc somewhere, but for anyone who doesn't want to go read a whole lot of Captain America books, this is a good quick summary.

It was also an enjoyable story. It was written well, and I did like the art. It fit the time frame it was set in.

Bucky, Steve, and Toro (mini Human Torch who I now need to look in to) were very likable. Of course, the emphasis is on Bucky, and he's an endearing character.

I really don't have any complaints about this story. The really quick summaries of how Bucky became the Winter Solider were very rushed, but it was Bucky just sort of quickly explaining it (as he is the narrator). So for people who don't want to go buy Brubaker's run of Captain America, that probably would be a pain, getting these weird summarizes that take up a page and don't get completely told. But seeing as I was trying to figure out if I want to devout time and money in to Bucky Barnes, this was what made me decide "definitely".
