Lovely. Wise. Moving. I can’t recommend this collection of essays enough.

A collection of essays about the love in Christman's life--romantic love, maternal love, platonic love, self-love. Love can take different forms such as grief or worry, she shows us, remembering the death of her young fiance that drove her half-mad, or analyzing obsessive fears about the well-being of her children. How I would describe her writing style is that she pays attention--pays fierce and tender attention. There is dark humor and sincere gratitude in these pages, beautiful sensory detail balanced with suspense and gut-wrenching emotion, vignettes that form a cohesive whole. I could have read this book all in one sitting, but I chose to read an essay or two at a time do I could savor it. Highly recommended.
