A Raisin in the Sun
By Lorraine Hansberry
A Raisin in the Sun is powerful and emotional. It tells the story of a struggling, working class family with hopes and dreams for a better future. In this play, Hansberry created very memorable characters. The story really brings to light the struggles this family experienced.
A Raisin in the Sun was nominated for multiple Tony Awards and has been considered one of the best plays ever written. It is certainly one of the best plays I've ever read!
This one was absolutely a 5 star read. I listened to this play in audiobook format while following along in the print book. The audiobook had a full cast and was absolutely phenomenal! I then followed the listening and reading of this play with watching the 1961 film adaptation starring Sidney Poitier which was also very well done. Definitely consider listening to the full cast audiobook when reading this and then watch the 1961 film adaptation afterwards.
A Raisin in the Sun is moving and compelling; and it's a book that I feel should not be missed.

This play was very interesting, and I felt it dealt with some tough issues of racism and family conflict. I really liked the characters Ruth, Lena, and Bennie, and I really enjoyed the character development these characters had. This play showed how strongly our society relies on money, how hard it can be for a family with little money, and the tensions it can cause. This play focused on real-world situations.

An emotionally stirring play. The gamut of feelings from anguish, elation, determination, rage, jealousy, and more. The struggle of a black family in times when the daily grind was crushing but you still had to press on.

this play follows a struggling, working-class, black family in chicago. this takes a deep dive into family dynamics. we have “mom,” the matriarch who recently lost her husband; walter and ruth, a married couple who disagree about how to make money; their son, travis; and beneatha, a college student who’s not afraid to challenge social norms. while this book was written decades ago, it still felt realistic, in so many ways, to life now. i’d recommend this play and i’m hoping to one day read lorraine hansberry’s memoir.

I'd like to see a performance of this so I can appreciate it more. I enjoyed the dialogue and adored Beneath's character quite a bit.
