This story was just ok. I liked the narrator. But there was a ton of sex, which took away from the story.

With an intriguing new take on an old myth, intensely sensual characters and the sexiest connection between two people that can be imagined, Dangerous is a wonderful read, with action, drama and the embrace of mortality to keep things from being too simple. The amazing connection between Devon and Liam is almost too intense to read, but you are unable to put it down for a single second. The new world you find yourself immersed in is one that could be reality so easily. Jacquelyn Frank is one of my go to author and I have never read one of her novels I didn’t like, but her new voice as Jax is one that I am having mixed feelings about. I like the characters and the overall storylines, but I am not developing as deep a connection as I would have expected. I’m going to have to say the jury is out on this new author’s voice. Book three will be a deciding factor for me for sure.

I received an e-copy of this book from the publisher on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am a part of a paranormal romance book club and in that aspect I have heard A LOT about Jacquelyn Frank and her amazing writing. When I saw this optioned on NetGalley and read it was a new project of Jacquelyn Frank's I had to see what all the hype was about with her writing. I was afraid I was going to be disappointed and have to wage war against my fellow paranormal romance lovers if I didn't like her book. Fortunately, that was a non-issue.

Dangerous opens on a military-esk training exercise with Liam Nash as the commander. Displaying his troops' expertise to a perspective client and disliking that fact in ever way. Liam is a tough-as-nails man who was groomed to be not just the best bodyguard in the business, but also a man with no squeamishness when it came to a little blood and a little death. He never knew a woman who could keep his interest or a job that was anything but business as usual.

Then he meets Devon.

Devon is a pristine and beautiful specimen of a woman who is blunt, ferocious, and irresistible to the stoic Liam. She enlists his help in protecting herself and the prototypes she has developed that could even the odds between the human race and a race of immortals with little to no regard for humans as more than vermin to be put down. Liam is the only human to ever figure out a way to kill this new lab-created race of humanoid monsters.

Between the steamy, hot romance between Devon and Liam and the new race of vampire-esk creatures in this book, it was no small stretch to look up on the last page of the book and realize I had read the entire 320 pages in one sitting. This book binge was well worth the lack of sleep it caused. I found that Jacquelyn Frank's writing was some of the hottest sex scenes, most thought out plot, and original concept of antagonists I have seen in a long time. There were no shortcomings that I could find in this book, and I usually can ALWAYS find SOMETHING I didn't like about the story, characters, or sequence of events. I loved it all. I want more. There is no mention as to whether this is going to be a series or not, but I would love if it were. I would love it even more if it was a continuation of Devon and Liam's story.

Dangerous is the type of paranormal romance that walks the fine line of erotica. The sex scenes are all consuming, the romance is heart felt, and the danger is almost tangible. My heart raced so much during the reading of this story, I was sure it was going to burst out of my chest at any moment. Jacquelyn Frank, or JAX if you rather, has found her way onto my list of favorite paranormal romance writers. Congratulation's Jacquelyn, and well done!

I did not have the easiest time getting into the story. Everything built up really slowly and was quick to let it down if that makes sense. The world was interesting but nothing that really made me go wow. Both characters on their own were ok but there was something off about them together. I can't put my finger on exactly what their relationship was missing but there was something that didn't sell me on them. The ending was meh. Definitely something you should grab at the library if you feel you must read it.

This was a fascinating return to the world of the Morphates. The original story left us with the clans moving into the Dark Cities and I have wondered when she would return to that storyline. Devon' s story picks up 50 years after the first story and answers many of the questions readers have been pondering.

Given by the publisher for an honest review

It was dangerously good...Completely mind-blowing!!
I got addicted on it from the first pages..

Devon is simply a remarkable woman.Few people could do what she did. What amazed me the most about her is her decency, her morals and the elegance she radiated with every action she made, with every word she spoke..
She is one of the best and most amazing characters I've ever read about..

Liam was so fun to read..He is the only man who deserved to have a woman like Devon..They have the same moral code..Yet,they break their own rules for each other..I loved his POVs..When he realised he was jealous, when described her,in the ending..

I loved the story.I loved the characters.I loved the decency, the intelligence and the elegance this book exuded...I loved everything about it!

Brilliant.Elegant.Unique.

Review Copy from NetGalley.

Dangerous starts with Devon Candler needing to hire Liam for security. She has had several attempts made on her life. And Liam is the security expert. He sets up a team for 24/7 to constantly be on guard. But what he doesn't realize is that Devon isn't who he thought she was, and they instantly have this strange attraction to each other. Devon is keeping things from Liam because she is afraid of what he will think of her once he finds out. But she feels guilty about it especially when she wants to act on the attraction between them.

I have to say this book was okay. I like how it was a different kind of paranormal romance. But I really wasn't a huge fan of Devon. She just bugged me. I was also disappointed with the ending. I thought it would be this huge climactic ending with a huge fight or something along those lines, but I was majorly disappointed with the end. However, it was an HEA type of story so that was a bonus. Other than that though this book was okay, but not great. Not sure I will be reading it again, but it did have an interesting story line.

Oddly enough the “love story” was what I disliked about this book. This is the second Morphate book, although for some reason it is not listed as such. The first book is a anthology called The Pleasure Project. I didn’t read the first book so I can’t compare the two. I loved the world that was built. The book takes place roughly 50 years in the future. There are people who were experimented on and they have been altered into immortal, super strong beings with reptilian eyes and a thirst for blood when sexually aroused. In this future all of the major US cities have fallen to ruin and are now ruled my Morphate Alphas who are whipping them into shape.

I loved the NHK team. They are smart, well equipped, resourceful, and capable soldiers. They also have a intense camaraderie and crack jokes on each other. I found myself looking forward to the interaction between team members. Liam is the typical Alpha male hero. He is a bit brooding, and why to easily distracted by a pretty face. Devon is a Morphate, Doctor, Scientist, genius, liar. Since she is a Morphate she doesn’t really need a body guard, she is stronger and more well trained in self defense than any of the people she has hired. So at first Liam has no idea that he is not technically needed for this job. I also found it annoying that Liam was under Devon’s spell as if it was some mystery. Really? She is gorgeous, with a sick body. She walks around in see through clothes, and most importantly as a Morphate she sends of intense sexual pheromones. There was no seduction here. A damn near naked woman is sashaying around smelling like sex, of course Liam had a hard on for her. The sex scenes were hot, but unlike Liam I never forgot that if she did truly get caught up in the moment she could either drain him of all his blood or rip him to shreds with her claws. Aside from great sex there was nothing between the two leads that occurred to make them fall in love. And Devon’s constant lying by omission didn’t help. This isn’t a love story. This is the story of a bodyguard breaking rule number one and screwing his client. The villain Ambrose wasn’t very developed and he came across as a psycho who was simply power hungry. Which is a shame, because the story of how the first generation of Morphates came to be is an interesting one and could have lead to deep and complex character motivations.

I won’t be waiting for the next Morphate book, if there is one. However, I did like Inez and Kellen. So if there is another book, and its about them I will most likely read it.

*Book source ~ Many thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for providing a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Devon Candler is a rich recluse whose life is being threatened and she needs the best security available. That would be the company NHK, highly trained, highly skilled and very deadly. As a co-owner of NHK, Liam Nash is a Team Leader and the only one available to head up the team to provide her security. Liam, used to being the consummate level-headed professional at all times, is thrown for a loop when he reacts to his charge with enough sexual heat to melt the polar ice caps. Somehow, they need to deal with their attraction before it gets Devon killed.

I’m happy to see another Morphate story. The first, a short, was in The Pleasure Project and I was really hoping the Morphates would get their own series. Whether that’s the case or not is not known, but this second story makes me hopeful I’ll get my wish.

I like Devon, her dedication, intelligence and take no shit kickass attitude. Liam is one hot yummilicious hunk of dangerous beefcake. The two are nuclear together. I’ve always loved stories involving highly trained dangerous professionals, so NHK is a wet dream for me. The secondary characters are a wonderful counterpoint to the main characters and the enemy, while being too arrogant for his own good, is deliciously evil. The story did drag out a bit too long for my liking, but all-in-all a very hot suspenseful read.

Dangerous is set in the future with a race of people that have evolved overtime into an almost unstoppable race. They evolved from the lower rungs of society and while most of the world were content to leave them be, they became rather powerful.

Liam Nash is hired to provide security for Devon Candler. They are both incredibly drawn to each other and have a very hard time keeping their hands off.

However, Devon has some huge secrets and big reasons for needing security that she is not willing to explain to anyone, not even Liam.

This was a quick paced book with good chemistry.

I received this ARC from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
