While The Death of a Government Clerk did not quite live up to the expectations set from my previous read of Chekhov's work (The Bet), I definitely did enjoy this.
This particular short story does a great job of showing how lower level employees feel the need to apologise to death (ha!) to their superiors for even the most minor transgressions. I let out a genuine laugh at the final sentence. This didn't have as much meat as I prefer in a short story, but the message is one that I approve, and the laugh at the end was well worth it.
I would recommend this for anyone looking for a short story with some light gallows humour.

Analyzing this gave it a whole different view but still not my favourite.
