Reread: 30/07/22 : ahh this book! This was intense, maybe my fav book of the series. Rose has set off to Russia with the help of Sydney she ends up in Baia. Where Dmitri’s family lives. She spends time with them and offers words at Dmitris funeral. To them Strigoi is someone dead. They do not acknowledge it.

But then Rose goes off and is captured by Dmitri. That whole part was honestly so hard and jarring to read. Seeing Dmitri there but so different. Turning her into his one feeding stock. The strength she had to escape that and run away…she really is amazing. We thought she had killed Dmitri but by the looks of things he Isn’t dead. Now his coming for her. But there’s a rumour that a spirit user can turn strigoi back to normal. Rose needs to graduate and become a Guardian and then will start her next big quest with the gang! She also met her father, not knowing that he was. His so cool I can’t lie.

So excited to read book 5!

I love this series so much and it never gets old. Even though I’ve read this series 10 time and know what’s coming next I still enjoy reading it over and over again. I love rose and Dimitri’s relationship and how they have to go through so much. It makes them stronger. It’s just such a beautiful story!

Oh my god. I can't get over how much happened.
Rose starts off wandering Russia in search of Dimitri, takes a family pitstop, gets abducted and emotionally trapped....and that's only half of it!
There were parts where I speed read paragraphs of her back and forth thoughts as a captive, otherwise I was completely absorbed. Literally read half of the book in one night, mostly because things just kept happening and you can't put a book down in the middle of action.
Avery's power was surprising, Abe being her father was not (Abraham = Ibrahim duh). The ending leaves plenty of things to wonder about too...will Christian take Lissa back? Dimitri wtf?!

I really enjoyed this book! I think the change in scenary and the new characters were exactly what this series needed. Also, I really liked seeing the vulnerable parts of Rose and how she functioned away from Lissa. Though it starts a little slow, like most of The VA books do...once Mead gets her footing the book becomes a drug. You will want to put it down.

Heartbreaking. Now this is a fantasy. Adventure, journey, quest. Some very interesting revelations.
