I have to say that I was thrown off by the treatment of the animals (giving it three stars because that is hard for me to read about), but learning about circus life was very interesting. Also, there was a happy ending. I like happy endings!

I was entertained by this book and it reminded me of Fried Green Tomatoes in that it alternates in the story telling between the past and present. The animal abuse and domestic violence is a little tough to take and i don't think I'll ever see a circus the same again. It was an interesting look at the life of circus people in the depression era.

The setting, a travelling circus during the 1930s, was interesting to learn about, but the back story was just ok.

I enjoyed this book very much, I laughed, I cried, it moved me Bob. I especially enjoyed the time in the nursing home, have worked in them for over 5 years, it was very easy to picture a resident acting the way our character did. The last chapter really tugged at the heart strings, I thought it was very well written, and I was pulled in by the second chapter.
