Absolutely captivating! I need more people to read this series because there's so much creativity put into it, from the world-building to the art itself. The story itself is not only engaging but thoughtful in its messaging. Can't wait to read the finale!

Another fun book in the Wondla series, and I am really hoping it is not the end of the series. I want to know how it continues, will she be happy, will she continue to travel?

But this book was wonderful. The pictures really add to the story. Though I wish they had more color in them.

**Reviewed from the advanced reader copy, so the majority of the art was missing.

An exciting sequel to the fantastic THE SEARCH FOR WONDLA, with lots of action and insight into the world Eva was just beginning to learn about in the first book. While this book takes a dystopian twist, it still feels more like a classic science fiction than anything else, as did the first book. While a few of the characters fell a little flat, middle grade readers will eat up this fast-paced adventure, which leaves plenty of questions and an exciting conclusion to come in the final book of the trilogy.

I am especially eager to see the final artwork, which are done in tones of blue (as opposed to the green of the first book). And I can't wait to find out what happens to Eva Nine next!

I have been waiting for this book for quite a while to come out and when I first started I was a bit disappointed. It just wasn't grabbing me the way the first book did. I would pick up the book and then set it down, repeatedly. I am VERY glad I stayed with it. About a third of the way in it just took off. Eva Nine learns more about her history and Rovee's history and learns that only she can save WondLa. Great book!

4 ⭐ A great sequel with an engaging story I couldn’t put down! The first half of the book did feel a *little* slow after a while, I guess because it didn't have the sense of wonder, curiosity and discovery of the first book. Definitely for Eva, but not for me as a reader.

I really enjoyed the second half, except for the whole thing with a character being turned into a tree. What happened to them was absolutely horrendous and we are supposed to feel happy for them??? What??? And Eva just abandons them? I sincerely hope it gets sorted in the next book.

It’s just such a bad message in a book written for younger readers - that people who carry hatred are inherently bad people who cannot change and don’t deserve to live, even though
SpoilerEva Eight’s anger came from a genuine place. Of course, she treated Eva horribly, and with Eva being portrayed as a very determined, strong minded thirteen year old throughout the series, it was very out of character for her to follow along with Eva Eight to the heart of the forest while injured. There was every opportunity for the forest thing to encourage her to change or do anything other than turn her into an inanimate plant!!!

The explanation for why Eva can communicate with animals didn't make sense to me either because it doesn't explain why she was able to do it immediately after leaving the Sanctuary in the first book. We never got a glimpse of Eva’s unusual level of compassion while she was still in the Sanctuary, in fact, at no point in the book did she ever strike me as especially compassionate.

So yes, I think the heart of the forest part honestly completely ruins the book, but the rest of it would be a 5 stars from me.
