I read a lot of crime novels, and I struggled to get into this book about an autistic 15 year old who goes missing from a small lakeside town called Bleak Harbor. My problems are:

1 I didn't like the parents all that much, because they had some serious flaws which made them hard to like.

2 Their son wasn't all that likeable, and I was wondering if he was using his high functioning autism to excuse his behaviour.

3 I'm dubious an autistic kid would have the skill he demonstrates here.

4 I wonder if the author really understand s autism. It's not just about poor social skills.

5 The FBI agents that are called in are arrogant or incompetent.

So all in all I struggled to get into this book. Read at your peril.

This is a forgettable mystery with forgettable characters. I don’t feel like the character of Danny was built out in a realistic way for someone with autism. Referring to people with autism as “autistics” rubs me the wrong way for some reason.

What to say about this book? I chose this from my Amazon Prime first look list as it seems to be quite the thriller. Unfortunately, I ended up feeling more than a little disappointed. I didn't really bond with any of the characters and I found the story pretty flat and predictable. I also didn't like the way it ended at all.

That said, it did keep me turning pages and for that reason gets 3 stars.

So good plot but very forgettable characters, none of which were at all likeable. Way too much going on.

It was okay. It had a ton of promise & I don't feel it fully delivered.

Page turner

This book kept me guessing and turning the page. I'm hoping there is a sequel.... Excellent mystery. I'll read this author again

Very interesting book about a family with a lot of secrets that start when a boy is kidnapped just before his 16th birthday. I thought it was an interesting and exciting book, but I didn’t feel the story was over when the book ended. I would have liked more answers to many of the questions that popped up through the novel. If you enjoy family drama, thrillers, and Lake Michigan, definitely read this book!

Honestly would've been 2 stars if I wasn't from Michigan and enjoyed the references. It was frustrating to see how this played out. Felt like there was a lot of meandering. Only to find out that because there's a sequel!
