If I had to change one thing about the book, I would simply make Carlos' brother live so we wouldn't have this mess of a story.

Entitled, rich, nepotism baby that leaves his life behind to pursue a different path than what he's 'destined' for? Check. (He's also the protagonist.)

Clumsy, she's not like other girls love interest that we hardly know anything about? Yes.

North of Happy reads like a try-hard John Green book with more inclusivity (main character is Mexican... but like sheltered.) - but John Green has an edge to this book. He actually has a pleasantly pretentious writing style. This book's protagonist is more whiney, "boohoo I can't believe this happened to me even if I grew up with more privilege than the average Mexican or even middle-class American :(".

Tl;dr: If you want to read John Green, do not read wannabe John Green. Read John Green instead to satisfy your itch.
