“All those moments throughout the days, weeks, months that don't get marked on calendars with hand-drawn stars or little stickers.
Those are the moments that make a life.
Not grand gestures, but mundane details that, over time, accumulate until you have a home, instead of a house.”

This is the first Emily Henry book that I’ve truly loved; it’s easily my favorite. I grew up in Michigan so all the references are super endearing.
This delivers exactly what I want in a good romcom, it’s forced proximity and fake dating at it’s absolute finest.

Funny Story follows Miles and Daphne, opposites, who become roommates unexpectedly when their partners both break up with them to date each other. I think every single character fits into the story perfectly. I absolutely adore Miles. I found Daphne super relatable as a character and could see a bit of myself in her. She came to Waning Bay for her fiancé Peter, and when he called off the engagement she has a self-discovery journey to figure out who she is outside of Peter and their shared friends/interests. The tension kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. On paper, Miles and Daphne don’t make sense. But I love the idea that they’re both leaving these great relationships, and there’s no way these two should be a match but they help each other heal and grow and are the best versions of themselves together. Serious moments were perfectly balanced with comedic relief. The scenes with Daphne’s dad and Starfire were absolutely hilarious.

The found family was super sweet and the end of this book felt like a warm hug. I want to reread it already!

“"Or maybe," he says, eyes crinkled against the sun, "everything worth doing comes with some risk".”
