Another sweet, episodic volume from the Moffats. Though this takes place a hundred years ago, the description is clear enough that a 3rd or 4th grade reader will be able to pick up on the differences in life that long ago without being too confused by it. Jane's struggles, though affected by her times, are universal.

it was a delightful, funny book about an average girl, but with some non average events

LOVE! Jane just completely captured my heart--perhaps I have extra affection for her because my middle name is Jane and that's not always a name given to main characters. She is spunky and clever and not always real bright and it all just cracks me up.
And for the historian in me, there are several kidlit history things to ponder. Going backwards in the series--the Moffats is on its way from the library!

I really liked the vocabulary in this book. And the sweet story of a 10yo girl in a small town in the 1910s. We were particularly interested in the chapter in which she views a total solar eclipse, having recently viewed a partial one ourselves.

The kids and I really enjoyed this book. The friendship between Janey and the oldest inhabitant was very endearing. Blake said he liked it better than The Moffats because of Mr. Buckle.

Read for a second time for family book club and our 6-year-old throughly enjoyed it.  We all commented that we had such anxiety for Jane’s trials and tribulations and empathy for her emotions—truly well-written!!
