I read this one with my son earlier this month. It’s part of a series and though this isn’t the first one in the series it’s the first we read. The basic premise is the main character has the ability to hold a classic baseball card and travel back in time to see that player. In this book, he travels back in time too see Babe Ruth make his famous called shot in the 1932 World Series.

Great books for baseball-loving boys - a little mystery, a little adventure, a little history, a lot of baseball.

I have a 10 yr old who loves baseball and tends to read lots of graphic novels,so I thought I'd 'assign' him some traditional format chapter books. Of course that means I should read it first...
I was not expecting the story to introduce historical topics such as prohibition, the great depression, the holocaust as well as include such poignant plot elements as greed, parental bonds, childhood illness etc. I have to admit I kept getting worried about how the characters were altering the space-time continuum...but being a children's book everything ended up ok.
