Suspenseful. Tense. Satisfying. Teenage Vivian can see spirits and the effects they have on the people around her. After the deaths of her mother and brother, she goes to live with her father in a new town with secrets all its own. Many of its residents carry shadows, an awesome representation of the fear/self-loathing/insecurity that anyone can face, yet these shadows are sinister, supernatural, and drum up all sorts of connections between the living and the beyond. They play a significant role in the city's most horrifying secret. Vivian is likable. The supporting characters are well rounded. This was a fun and creepy trip through teen horror.
