This was a charming story that focused of some really interesting topics, especially for a middle grade book. Elise’s experience was heart wrenching to read but I thought it a little unrealistic that no adult at the school thought to investigate her mutism. I found the general pacing a bit slow, but then the end wrapped up so quickly. Like a lot of the other reviews I read, I too hated the almost magic realism element with the Raven. It was such a strange and unnecessarily vague plot point.
Graphic: Child abuse, Mental illness, and Bullying
Moderate: Car accident, Child death, and Death of parent
Minor: Alcoholism
