I came out of this book with a new found respect for Harry and Meghan, while presenting a whole other view of the royal family. It is absolutely appalling that a father could refer to his children as “an heir and a spare” (This is what Harry claimed Charles said to Diana when Harry was born. Was it truly said? Who knows…but it is still appalling and something I can totally see Charles saying) I also could have done without so much detail about his military career, but it did further serve to show what molded him into the person he is.

I am not a fan of memoirs. I don’t typically like them. I am also not a fan of Harry and Megan. With that said, I was shockingly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I found Spare to be interesting.

Say what we will, this is the account of one person’s perspective — that is a memoir. And whether or not I agree with choices and decisions is besides the point. It’s not for me to agree or not. But hearing his perspective did give me pause to think and a reminder that we don’t actually know what happens in other people’s lives especially when details could be very manipulated by media.

There are many themes in this book that many people could identify with in their own way. And that gives way for the possibility of deep conversations and understanding gained.

I listened to the audiobook. I’m glad I did. I think Prince Harry did a good job with narrating. And frankly, I think this book would be much less if he did not narrate.

I went into the book absolutely convinced I would not like this book. That I would grimace all the way through. The opposite happened; I liked it very much. Lots to think about beyond the obvious of the royal family.

I listened to the audiobook, rather than read it, and I'm really glad I did. I think it would have been a bit slow to read it physically, but listening to Prince Harry tell his own story really elevated it. If I had read this book I think would I have rated it 3/3.5 stars, as there were times when I felt it was slow and dragged on a bit, but the audio version deserves 4 stars due to Harry's narration and what it brought to the experience.

Audiobook Version
This book will divide readers in two teams: Team Monarchy and Team Harry. Some believe that he shouldn’t have written this book or told his side of the story but why shouldn’t he had? Everyone else has done that for many years, it’s time for the truth to come out straight from the horse’s mouth.
The book is painfully sad, the way he has been treated, time and time again made me never wanting to read another newspaper again. I loved the fact that he hasn’t sugarcoated his naughtiness or painted himself as an angel. He is taking accountability for his doing unlike the rest of the Firm and the British press. He is genuine and the love for his work and his own little family clearly noticeable in his voice. In my opinion, a book worth reading/listening to.

I've heard a lot about this book, both good and bad, so wanted to give it a try for myself.

I found this book a great insight into royal life, which was really interesting! It's hard to know what to believe from news articles so getting a first hand description of what goes on behing closed doors was fascinating.

I loved hearing about his and Megan's love story first hand, you could really feel his love for her projecting from the book. I felt for them both for the way the media harassment affected them and how they felt they needed to protect their family.

I did find this book very negative, though. There didn't seem to be many positive moments talked about so it was quite a heavy read. Even when talking about his "frost-bitten penis" it still didn't bring much levity to the book.

Overall, I'm glad I read this and found it quite interesting but I don't think I would read another if there was any in the future.
