I loved this book as much as I loved Stitch and Bitch by the same author. The text is fun to read. So many craft books, have super boring text so I appreciate some humor.
I do like the layout of this book, better than that of Stitch and Bitch because the color pictures of the finished product is right next to the patterns.
Debbie Stoller taught me how to crochet, through a book without ever meeting me. How cool is that?
The book is geared toward beginners, so although there are some pretty cool patterns throughout, if you are an advanced crocheter, this book may not be for you.

If you are learning to crochet, you need this book. I'm not entirely convinced about some of the patterns, but it's a fantastic starter guide

It was Debbie Stoller's Stitch n Bitch that I used to teach myself to knit. NOw, in a blasphemous move for a seasoned knitter, I'm teaching myself to crochet a decade after I picked up my first knitting needles. Turning to Debbie Stoller again was a smart move. Her instructions, as always, are clear, informative, amusing, and well organized. I doubt I'll actually use any patterns from this book, but when it comes to learning basic crochet skills, this book is taking the upper hand on every online tutorial I tried to use.

This is a great book for both beginning and experienced "hookers". I love the patterns in the book and the crochet explanations are clear and easy to understand.

I'm not much of a crocheter--I can crochet exactly as much as you need to be able to in order to be a fairly skilled knitter, and no more. I was hoping to be inspired to want to improve my skills by this book (as I was and am to improve my knitting by the Stitch 'N Bitch knitting books), but frankly I'm not. There are loads of lovely crochet patterns out there, but not in this book--as far as I'm concerned; obviously it's a highly individual issue. I just kept thinking how much better things would look (and how much easier for me to make) if they were knitted.

Although I originally bought this book as a beginner, I still use it as a reference for specific stitches or fresh ideas.

I’ve been a knitter for many many years, but have always wanted to learn how to crochet but, as my yearly attempts always seemed doomed to failure I was beginning to believe that old saying ‘knitters can’t crochet, and crocheters can’t knit’; until I found this book.
If you are starting from scratch after many frustrating attempts, this is the book for you and is a perfect example of what ‘learn how to’ craft book should be like. Written in a clear and easy to understand manner, which is also laced with humour, this book covers it all. If you are a visual learner, don’t despair, as this little tome is full of easy to understand illustrations that add weight to the ‘lessons’ they are contained in. I found them very useful as, for some reason, when my brain wasn’t prepared to process the words the illustrations helped them sink in and stay there.
The book starts with a brief history of the craft and then progresses from there through tools, getting started, how to read charts and finally finishing with some easy first patterns to follow. It covers yarns and the hooks that go with them, so even the most die-hard knitter will maybe have to shell out a couple of dollars to get themselves started.
The only thing I would say about this book, other than how wonderful it is, is that it would have been nice if the beginners patterns wear more along the line of household items and accessories rather than the usual wearables; however, this didn’t take away from my thorough enjoyment this book gave me, and the feeling of accomplishment that I now have from using it.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who, like me had given up hope of ever learning to crochet. Crocheters who want to learn to knit, don’t despair as this Author also has a book that covers this written in the same fashion.

A good book for someone beginning crochet or someone a little bit advanced. Check the errata before starting any projects. It's riddled with mistakes.
