It was ok. Suppose there was a prophecy of 400 years sent back in time to pre-Roman Britain, then suppose it doesn't change anything and nothing interesting happens . Meanwhile, the reader gets a serviceable tour of the late Western Roman Empire. Unfortunately, everybody in Britain talks and thinks like a 20th-Century science-fiction fan, contemplating the span of centuries and time travel and enlightened self-interest.
1st-Century soldier: "Say, look at this empty patch of river!"
Random Briton: "Gee, this otherwise unremarkable place is well positioned to become a crossroads in the economic network that spans the Eurozone, acting as a nexus of global trade. Why, in a few centuries it might have a huge city on it."
Passing farmer: "I know! And wouldn't it be silly if it were named for local river god Lud? Like a Lud-don? London? (winks at reader)"
