I enjoyed reading this story and following the main character on his journey but at times I felt like the split between the past and present wasn't smooth to me.

Colfer, who is best known for his [b:Artemis Fowl|249747|Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl, #1)|Eoin Colfer|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327945104l/249747._SY75_.jpg|1334778] series, offers up a graphic novel about the lengths refugees have to go through in order to leave their country in search of a better life.

I definitely goofed and read GLOBAL first. I was sort of expecting it to be similar, and though the story is clearly written by the same team, it’s so different. When I think of risky immigration, I never think of the mad dash between Africa and Italy. This was masterfully created, powerful, and heart wrenching.

This was a great book! It is the first book I have read by either of the authors, and it was fantastic.

The voice is very authentic, and the story being told is, I think, very poignant and something that is important for people of all ages to learn about and understand.

I think the choice to tell the story by going back and forth between two different time points was interesting, I am not sure how much I care for that choice, it makes things feel a bit disjointed and a little harder to follow. That is the only reason I am docking it down to four stars.

I enjoyed the story and the fact that the authors wanted to bring attention to this situation, but I wanted more. I know this is targeted to a younger audience, but I really wanted to know more as to why the brothers to making this trip. Why couldn’t they be found without papers? What is the corruptedness that kept them in hiding and on the run? Also what happened to the baby Ebo was given? A lot of missing information for me.

This was heartbreaking. I expected it to be, but thank God it's so short because my heart hurts.
