Ultimately the novella doesn't go anywhere significant, but Messud's storytelling makes even getting nowhere worth it.

this was a quick read (as it was a short story) and i have to say, it was better than i was expecting. to tell the truth i didn’t have any high expectations for it as it was so small and i didn’t see any reviews that piqued my interest but nonetheless it was a nice read.

it’s mostly about a family moving to a mansion to rent out because some rich lady didn’t want to leave it to short term tenants and the wife is looking for a housekeeper so she doesn’t have to clean it all alone.

if i’m being honest i didn’t really like Alice and i had a very much love/hate relationship with her because at time i think she just made all of the wrong decisions but overall most of the characters are really well written.
