Really enjoyed this book - it blends fairy tale elements with historical fiction to create a really lovely story. Eleanor is frustratingly stubborn, but it's also understandable because of how much she's been lied to by people she trusted. Would definitely recommend this!

I enjoyed this one and felt the story flowed well. Eleanor was an interesting character and is definitely put into a situation she has no control over. There were a few twists and turns that made this story a 3.5 versus a 3 for me and while it is considered historical, it didn't feel heavy with it.
I'm glad I came across this one and will definitely check out other books by this author.

I haven't read a good romance in so long. This was a beautiful sort of welsh beauty and the beast. I couldn't stand the frustrating behavior of the heroine for many parts- and the emotionality of the character development of the story seemed rather underdeveloped and flat at times. But it was still a creative story and an intriguing part of history to try and recreate. I'm a sucker for all things British isles. It feels very amateur but I think her writing voice is lovely and I look forward to reading more of her work. Quick, entertaining read for when you just need a little romance.

This was an enjoyable historical romance set in Wales. The author did a fantastic job of capturing the superstitions of the time and the beautiful somewhat unforgiving setting. I appreciated the clean romance. There is so much packed into this novel. There are betrayals, a witch, epic fights, and a slow building romance. The characters are well written and the story is very compelling. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next.

I'd probably give this a 3.5. It was a good book, and I did enjoy it. It was predictable, but I liked Eleanor, even as I wanted to shake her sometimes. I think the author could have done more with the setting and the secondary characters.

Loved this! I loved the premise of this story - a girl being sent off to marry the "enemy" king and trying to figure out who to trust and believe. I loved watching the growth of Eleanor - at times I just wanted to shake some sense into her, but I could see how her upbringing would influence her decisions. There was an element of magic in the story, but it wasn't the main focus. This is one I stayed up way too late to finish - thoroughly enjoyed it!

I liked this a lot! I thought it was well-written and had enough intrigue to hold my interest. I will be looking for more from Julie Daines!

It is a good story, arranged marriage and plot of intrigue and mystery but I could have slapped Eleanor, if someone told her not to do something it was a definite thing she would do.
