Definitely better than the last one. Yes it has basically the same plot structure as all the other books but it’s so snappy and funny that you barely notice. I just need the tv show to start catching up now.

Unlike the previous installment, this one spends more time on the back room dealing than action sequences, but it still has probably one of the most intense action sequences in the series. Diana Taverner and Peter Judd specifically take on bigger roles, which gives it more of a political thriller feel at times rather than espionage/action. Herron is so good at writing these characters by now, that every scene has something to get excited about, no matter how mundane the activity, like baking bread.
Ends on a cliff-hanger!

Another winner from Mick Herron. Old faces retuning, double dealing and back stabbing. My only complaint about this book (and series) is that there is not enough Jackson Lamb! Please let's have an entire book dedicated to the disgusting beauty of Jackson Lamb.
