A friend recommended one chapter of this to me in the 8th grade. I borrowed it in 1st period and read the entire thing before our last class of the day. Almost a decade later I still recommend this book and vividly remember reading it.

So far I've read 2 books by Mary Roach, and what I get is the same: an intriguing premise follows by little substance while trying too hard to be intimate and funny. Sure, you would learn some interesting facts to impress your friends at parties and think twice before signing the donor agreement. I would recommend "Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs? And other Questions about Dead Bodies" by Caitlin Doughty over any days

Mary Roach is such a fascinating and fun writer. this is a very interesting subject, but also a very morbid one. This book does a great job of walking the right line, being respectful, but not grim, being fun, but not gallows humor, being informative, but not hard science. Read this if the subject doesn't creep you out too much, it is very worth it.

I enjoyed this book, but at some point I had to slow down and read it in small doses. It's not the best to read before bed which is when I primarily read. It gets gross, smelly, and a little traumatizing at times. There were a few chapters that were hard to read because it freaked me out - namely the airplane forensics chapter. But otherwise, it's a fast paced inform tion dense (but reader friendly) book. I was very excited to find an update from 2021 at the end given that much of the science explained is now outdated. Thanks Mary Roach for making all my science education book dreams come true.
