This book was a different thriller from what I normally read but I liked it, much more than I think I even realized. It kept my attention even during the slower parts.

Fun but not super believable or consistent. There were lots of plotholes and I didn't find any of the characters really compelling. but I enjoyed reading it!

Definitely kept me entertained and turning pages. The ending left me wanting a bit more, but still a pretty good book.

Jenny Milchman writes a high paced outdoors suspense that takes you through the wilderness as a couple goes rafting down the river for their honeymoon encountering more danger than they could of possibly planned for!

The good thing about Book Bingos and other reading challenges is that they encourage you to read stuff you wouldn’t otherwise read.

Take Wicked River. I won this book in a library bingo contest. I wouldn’t have read it otherwise…but I hate letting go of free books. It likely would have sat on my shelf for at least a year, maybe longer, had “Outdoors” not been an option in the Cannonball Read Bingo books. But since it is…here we go!

It’s basically what I expected…a contrived plot that continuously gets more contrived as it goes on just to stick two straw man characters on a horror show adventure in the woods. There’s a B-plot that’s wholly unnecessary and could have been scrapped in order to lengthen the 449-page length.

But I’ll say this for Jenny Milchman: she can write a thriller. Even if I could anticipate what was coming next, I was rarely bored. She’s definitely got talent and while she can’t elevate this beyond a predictable thriller, she at least makes it more interesting than most of what I encounter in the genre. There’s something to be said for that.

These books are not my thing but sometimes, it’s cool to just turn your brain off and read. Had I been more invested in the two main characters, it may have broached 4-star status. As it is, it’s a slightly-better-than-expected page ripper that fans of the genre may enjoy.

More of a 2.5 because I was compelled to finish it but it took forever to read and while I wanted to find out what happened I was annoyed by most of this book. I feel like there were parts of good ideas here but none of them were perfect and all together it was just TOO MUCH.

Did we really need to have the drug deal? Couldn't they just be a happy couple who ran into trouble because of bad navigating? Hard to root for the couple when the husband is a creep who all of her friends hate and who we were made not to like for the whole first section of the book. Why bother with the whole subplot with the annoying teenaged niece and her friending his creepy 30 something friends on FB? Who cares about her sister's troubled marriage? And then I thought maybe we were getting something interesting once the cops and the search & rescue people got involved...sort of seeing the drama from the victim and the rescue POV but that was a bit of a red herring too. And then we have our bad guy.....that was just weird-o-rama for a million reasons.

(Purchased because I like the outdoors and mysteries in the outdoors and this author did an appearance at my local bookshop. I didn't see her speak but I still like to buy books of authors who come to the store.)

I received this book in exchange of an honest review from Netgalley. Don't let the three stars fool you I enjoyed the wild ride that this book took me on. A newlywed couple is going on a trip through the Adirondacks camping and rafting for their honeymoon. All kinds of craziness ensues! My reason for the three star rating is that the relationship in this book was unrealistic to me and the fact that a thirteen year old (Mia) is out to save her Aunt on her own. Mia runs into all kinds of crazy trouble in this book and I just couldn't see any of it happening. What are her parents doing that she can sneak off on her own so much to get into all of this trouble. I think this book is well worth the read and if you are into mystery or suspense this is the Summer read for you!

This is a hard one to review for me. It was good as far as thrillers go, pretty tense, and even a bit scary, but I had trouble suspending disbelief quite a lot.

This was the dumbest book. Ridiculously predictable and beyond stupid that Natalie went back with her husband. Who cares that they were captured? He still LIED TO YOUR FACE. He also should’ve gone to prison with Luke bc he KNEW what he was doing. I’m very disappointed.
