As a fan of the Divergent series, I was very excited when I heard that Veronica Roth was coming out with a new series. And the best thing was it was about superheroes AFTER they had defeated the villain. The premise was so unique. I was gifted this by Netgalley even after I had purchased my own copy. I knew I was going to read it either way.

I was not disappointed, and even more so, I was so excited that it was going to be a series! These are flawed characters, adored by many and as such they make decisions that are inherently human. I predict this series will be a staple on people’s shelves!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Received from Netgalley.

I was really impressed by this. I went in with low expectations but i ended up having a lot of fun. The book takes place after the events of the chosen ones staving the world, which is a pretty unique concept. The book focuses on the PTSD of the characters as adults. The 2nd half in particular got more exciting as the story picked up and the threads started to come together. It seemed more like the writing/plotting of divergent, which I loved back in the day. I don’t really understand why this was adult, aside from the character ages though. It felt more like a YA book to me.

❌ DNF at 25% (p. 108)
❌ Unhaul
The intrigue is just not there and the pacing is too slow.

Even though this was not a YA book... it still kind of read like one. Except there is sex and people swear more often. Interesting plot and was a fun read, though!

Horribly boring cover. A mashup of Umbrella Academy and Fringe, if thats even possible. Part One was different than the rest of the book, it was the more adulty, not sure if this is even a fantasy novel part. Then things got weird, and Kylo Ren (jk, buuuut yeah) appears and things continue to get weirder and weirder. The twists are easy to spot, but it was still great and such a breathe of fresh air to have a fantasy that was different than the usual.

Loved this book! You can tell that this is a YA writer, but I like that it was easy to read and very entertaining. Can’t wait for the next books in the series!
