Really enjoyed this book. Maybe the author will make this a series following the rest of the Pack and maybe Mystique's people too.

This book was...different. I’m giving it five stars because I read it all in one day so it was good enough for that, I’m also giving it five stars because it was an interesting world with unique aspects that I haven’t read a million times before. It was a little long in the beginning and I put it down a few times to go do things like laundry and dishes but after the first 1/4 of the book was through it picked up dramatically.

The editing was done well, and the prose was really beautiful....but it could be, at times, the kind of over the top beautiful that lulls one into napping instead of gripping their kindle in excited anticipation.

I will say, unless it comes into play more in future books, I think the vampirism aspect is superfluous and only thrown in to make this an “urban fantasy/paranormal” type romance instead of just straight high fantasy. It seemed completely unnecessary.

Also, though the world is extremely intriguing it also seems at odds with itself. They dress in medieval garb but they do have access to electricity? How? Why? What time period is this? Is the access to electricity just there in case the author needs it for some reason?

Everyone is a telepath? Or just an empath? And what does that mean exactly? An entire society of people who can’t be snuck up on? I’m a little hazy on the details...

That being said, it wasn’t enough to bother me. I am a sucker for over the top displays of manliness and I love a good ball gown description so...it is what it is. This gave me definite Black Dagger Brotherhood vibes but it was written with better access to a thesaurus and less cliche, hokey slang words.

Because so many things were different than the mainstream stuff I will probably read the next one just to see more of the world.

"2.5 out of 5 stars...

Okay. This is exactly what happened while I read this novel...

I was reeled into the beginning of this novel with its intriguing and mysterious buildup over Reule's people (the Sánge who are known as a savage group because they need to have blood while having sex and because of their fangs) and over Mystique (a woman who has run from her past while suffering from physical/emotional trauma and amnesia)."
