I enjoyed the latter half of this book…but I wish I’d loved the beginning more. It took awhile to get me hooked, but I wasn’t upset with the outcome. All the needed to do was actually TALK to each other.

Hated the first half. Enemies to lovers plot was a bit excessive during the first part of the book. Living in Naomi’s head was insufferable to the point I nearly considered DNF-ing the book.

BUUUUT you just have to power through to >50% of the book and I promise you it WILL get better. Once the couple acted more mature and started to support each, you also start to root for them again. Basically it highlights the importance of communication, honesty and going the extra mile for your partner in a relationship.

Even though I know how the story will unfold/end, it became unputdownable (i.e. the second half of the book) due to the writing. I agree with the others, its kinda written like a thriller (??) I don’t know how to describe it but the writing and story was addicting and exciting. Banter and humor were amazing. Will definitely read more from Hogle.

Blurbs:
Loved both of these quotes from the book

“I have to give while expecting nothing in return; otherwise, the gestures are empty. I hope I won’t be the only one here trying.”

“I’ve been fooling myself by thinking he’s been content all along. How arrogant, to assume he was content with me when I so obviously wasn’t content with him.” —-> this kinda stuck with me. I think we’ve all been guilty with this, with being selfish, with being cynic towards your partner. (Cue: It’s me, hi, I’m the problem it’s me)
No one deserves happiness or love more than the other, you deserve it BOTH EQUALLY.

I'm seriously conflicted. On the one hand, I liked this book. It's a fun twist on the enemies-to-lovers mixed in with a second-chance romance, while the MCs are actually STILL in the relationship and engaged throughout all this. It's an interesting concept and I do applaud Sarah Hogle for the idea.

However...it's not easy for me to fall in love with their romance. At the beginning of the book, they are seriously miserable and with lots of issues. No big red flags- just every day stuff that ultimately usually ends with a breakup. The reason they DON'T break up is also a bit contrived to me. Basically, their issues boil down to lack of communication. And yes, you do get to watch them work on their relationship and have some fun moments. But all in all, the turn around happened way too quickly for me. I wasn't that drawn in to the characters too.

It's a fine book, it just wasn't something that I'll think about reading again.

this is the first romance book i’ve ever fully enjoyed. only thing i have to complain about is how sappy it got towards the end…kind of gross tbh

This was a fun (and slightly different take) on the hate-to-love trope. There are moments in the initial set up of the characters that I wondered if Naomi was a sociopath, talking about how good an actor she is and she's hiding this whole part of herself from her fiance. But it seems she didn't really have a great understanding of her own skills haha.

I enjoyed the narrative, but I was hoping there would be some redeeming of some of the 'bad' characters.
Spoiler Nicholas's mum gets a really bad wrap, and I know that some people are like that but she seemed a little one dimensional because she was only ever awful
