Foi a primeira vez que li Jodi Picoult. Surpreendeu pela positiva. A história é interessante e prende a atenção do leitor.

All the way up until the end I loved it. I felt like each character was fleshed out in a way that you could really feel for them and, although it some ways the plot was predictable, I think there were definitely some unanticipated twists. However, the end just about ruined it for me. Not only does Willow die after everything they did to get the money to help help her, but after her death they don't even donate the check. The fact that Charlotte just slipped the check into her coffin feels like such a waste to me when she could have donated it to help other kids with OI. Donating the money would have been the perfect way to honor Willow and it wasn't going to do any good sitting in her grave. Aside from the ending, I was also really mad that Sean never came clean about kissing Piper. The fact that he cheated on his wife and then just got back with her without coming clean really ruins his character for me. I also felt like the entire thing ended way too quickly. The whole novel felt like a lot of build up and then everything else just wrapped up in the last chapter. I wished there had been more detail describing Amelia's recovery and Sean and Charlotte's reconciliation. Overall I did enjoy the book, but there were so many things about the end that just ruined it for me.

I will never read another one of her books. While yes, it was well written, and I enjoyed the different characters point of view; I don't enjoy reading such complete sadness.

closer to a 3.5... Typical Jodi Picoult style but some of the themes/elements struck me a particular way I didn’t love personally. Plus, the ending ruined me such that I’m both sad AND fuming.

Jodi Picoult certainly knows how to tell a mesmerizing tale. While her books never really stick with me, they are very absorbing and usually have a nice surprise twist. Plus they usually involve families on the brink, which makes me appreciate mine all the more! A good way to cleanse the reading palate between heavy books.

Yeah, no. It took me a lot to get through this one.

1- clearly she was never actually your best friend if you were ready to sue her for malpractice and completely screw up her life
2- Sean IS an asshole. Whole book. A white cop who feels powerful as one? Gee, great.
3- That ending is just…the ending was tragic and very sad, but I also find it to be unrealistic with the pattern of the characters because Charlotte would not have let Willow go running outside to look for Amelia, especially in a partially wooded area or when icy outside. I find it very hard to believe that and feel like it was just “huh I didn’t do one of my twists at the end…we’ll kill her off that’ll do it”
