This was a great follow up to the first middle grade novel in Phase 2, while also tying in the events of the adult novels. I love that the book shows kids facing tough choices and learning to work together, especially with others that have different views. Rooper is such a great Jedi and reminds me a lot of Vernestra Rowh. Another thing I loved about this book was turn diversity among the characters. Representation is so important, especially for kids to see, and it only adds more richness to the story, characters, and Star Wars universe.

One of the better novels of phase ii.  So tired of the Path of the Open Hand or whatever though.

I initially listened to the audiobook of this and wasn’t particularly impressed but it, but in reading the book to my kiddo, I found myself liking and appreciating it much more than on the listen. I definitely recommend reading this after The Quest for The Hidden City as most of the characters are introduced and developed there leaving this book to develop 2 new characters. All 4 POVs are good and the book supplements phase II of THR nicely. My kiddo when we finished reading it asked if there was more books with the characters, so looks like I’m reading him some Tales of the Light and Life.
